I just recently bought the Nikon D-5000 with the 18-55mm lens and while taking pics inside I couldn't really zoom in from across the room to get a tight face shot or just a single person shot if two or three people were standing together. With this 18-200mm lens I can get the wide shot plus I can zoom in and get that nice face shot without changing lens. I can sit across an average size dinning/living room and get everyone in the shot or just a bust shot of a single person even though they are standing with others. ...more

This lens beats switching between the basic 18-55mm and the 55-200mm lenses I've had for so long. this lens is a lifesaver and serious piece of equipment. [3] Rating: 4 Date: 2010-03-02 Summary: This is definitely an AF lens ... This is a very solid lens that works pretty much as advertised. I use this with the D90. There are two issues that keep me from giving 5 stars. 1. The lens must be locked when the camera is angled in a lens down mode. Locked means 18mm focal length. If not, the lens just creeps out until it is at full extension, 200mm. This can make down pointing tripods shots a pain.
