3G - 3rd Generation mobile network. 3G networks provide fast mobile access to Internet content, enabling the traditional features of desktop PCs, PDAs and phones to be combined into a single device.
Additive Colors - The three additive primary colors are red, green and blue. When these three colors of light are mixed in equal proportions they will produce white light. Also known as additive primaries.
Driver - A sound-producing device. It is also another word for loudspeaker. The woofer, midrange and tweeter are the "drivers" in a speaker enclosure.
Dynamics - Describes the way that a home theatre system renders soft as well as loud sounds. A system with good dynamics renders all sounds in natural, lifelike, three-dimensional proportions.
Enhanced TV - Also known as "datacasting." This term is used for certain digital on-air programming that includes additional resources downloaded to viewers. Some forms of enhanced TV allow live interaction; other forms are not visible on-screen until later recalled by viewers. Producers add these options to some digital programming to enhance program material -- allowing viewers the ability to download related program resources to specially equipped computers, cache boxes, set-top boxes, or DTV receivers.
High-Pass Crossover - A filter, often found in a powered subwoofer, that accepts the full-range audio signal heading for the main speakers. This filter only passes frequencies falling above a predetermined frequency and it attenuates those below. The goal is to prevent the main speakers from reproducing sounds that would be more accurately reproduced by a subwoofer.
Liquid Coupling - A liquid-filled connection between the CRT and the lens assembly of a projection television that makes it a single optical unit. Hitachi's patented Super Contrast Lens system utilizes a deeper liquid coupling chamber which reduces refraction and reflections between the CRT and lens, thus optimizing contrast and color accuracy. The liquid also acts as a coolant, keeping operating temperatures at proper levels during high-output performance.
